In this class we take ordinary junk mail and mail order catalogs and old magazines and upcycle them into a fun one of a kind monster journal. Each monster will emerge out of our discarded piles of mail and we'll even add words from tossed catalogs.

The class is open to all skill levels.

Supplies List

I have tried to list everything I used in the class, but you don’t need to go buy them all.

 

Discarded mail

Discarded magazines, mail order catalogs, or maybe even old newspapers

Drawing paper scraps

Sheet of heavier paper for cover (140 lb or so)

Newsprint paper or scraps

Acrylic inks in black and any colors you like (I used Daler-Rowney Sap Green for cover, Dr. Ph Martin misc colors and black), cover used paynes grey ink with sap green wash)

Acrylic paints in white, black and colors you like (I sometimes used Waverly Chalk paint (plaster color) for eyes), Luminous Opera Pink by

Uniball Vision Elite black pen

Uni-ball Signo white gel ink pen 1.0 mm or 0.7mm

Water soluble crayons/pencils such as Stabilo All Marking pencil or Caran d'Ache Neocolor crayon

Charcoal (optional)

Bamboo Ink Pen

Small lidded containers (restaurant sauces)

Fineline Precision Applicators (for inks)

Matt Acrylic Medium (I used Liquitex)

Clear Gesso

Brushes: assorted

Embossing Heat Gun (optional to speed up drying times)

Unscented Baby Wipes

Waxed linen or embroidery thread

Large eye needle

Water spritz bottle

Water brush pen

Small Water Spritz bottle for watered down inks

Old pen or sharp tool to scratch into inks
