A New Year!

woodland creature myst

A new year and some new paintings!  Introducing my newest paintings that I'm calling my Woodland Creatures.  They are protectors of the forests and the critters that live within them. After a previous year of silly monsters, these warriors are a bit more intense.  We can all do a bit to protect our own forests and lands. I plan to donate a portion of the sale of these to our local landtrust fund.

This year I'm hoping to teach more classes in art journalling and maybe even some book making. I'm excited about the upcoming year and seeing what all it will bring.

Happy New Year to you all and may 2013 find you in good heath and with good friends and family.

Happy Holidays!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday,  This year has flown by.  I started the year drawing silly little monsters that led to me writing a little children's book that I'm hoping will be published soon.  I thought it would be fitting to do a monster for my holiday card as well.  It's been a busy year work-wise.  Maybe that's why the year feels so short.  I have to remind myself to stop and take those precious moments with family and friends and get out of my little art hole.

I had a somewhat frustrating year art-wise.  After months of monsters and years of my mechanical girls, I found myself just not sure where I was going with my art.  Where I used to get solace in my painting studio, I would sit for hours not sure what to make.  My friends all told me to not worry about it and just create what came out; but I missed the old familiar feelings of joy from painting.  I pushed through.  Took a lot of online classes and then finally I started feeling like I'm again heading in a new direction.  Not sure where it will end up, but I have serenity again in my painting.  I'm currently immersed in new drawings and paintings.  A new series I'm calling my woodland creatures are still evolving. I'm looking forward to a new year of painting and jewelry and family and friends.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.  Let us take a moment to be grateful and remind our loved ones how much they mean to us.

From Light to Dark

Well, been a while since I made a blog entry.  I guess work and shows were keeping me busy, but that's really just an excuse.  I have spent the last few weeks struggling a bit with my art, well with figuring out what art I want to make.  I spent most of the year on the happy monsters and as Halloween approaches, I find myself drawn to darker art, so I have done some inkblot paintings in a new journal that I'm calling 'Out of the Shadows'.  But I can't escape the happiness the monsters bring, so I am doing some of those again too.  My little book, "Spots and What Not's" is off to a publisher for review but the publishing route could be a long and hard path.  So I'm hoping they will pick it up, but I also know that my odds are slim and I'll have to try the others on the list.

Anyways, I am going to load a few new things I've been working on here, but I'm still a bit unsure if any of them is really finished.
